Sweet 16

One of the young women I work with at church turned 16 yesterday. I made her this candy bar cake to help her celebrate. I found a pic. of one on Splitcoaststampers and thought I'd create my own. I used fun size snickers bars. Detailed instructions:

First, I cut 16, 3 1/2 x 2 inch pieces of Designer Series paper. I then wrapped the paper around each Snickers bar and closed off with double stick tape. I cut a piece of styrofoam to approx. a 3 1/2 inch circle. My foam was 2 inches thick. Then I put double stick tape around the outside of the foam and stuck the Snickers around it. I got 12 bars to stick around the sides. I wrapped the outside with a piece of ribbon and tied it in a knot.
I cut a 4 inch circle out of Pretty in Pink CS and added flowers punched from the 5 petal flower punch. I taped this to the top of the foam.

For the top of the cake I took one Snickers that didn't have DSP and stuck 1 Snickers to each side of it.

I wrapped ribbon around this layer and stuck it to the top of the base layer.

The "Sweet 16" sign was made with So Very, Tall Tales Numbers and Boho Backgrounds stamp sets. Ink is Choc. Chip and Purely Pomegranate. TFL!

Brady

I can't believe I have a 14 yr. old! Brady's birthday was a couple of days ago and he happened to have a lacrosse game that day. Luckily they won! He had a lot of fun and is happy to be on the team! We had ribs for dinner at his request and of course, strawberry shortcake for dessert. It was a fun day. #24

March Club

Here's what we did for our March Club meeting. I fell in love with the Inspired by Nature set and the card in the Fall/Winter 2008 catalog on pg. 10. I wanted to show the ladies what a great resource the catalog can be by either just casing a card or using the same idea with a different color palette. I'm happy with the results!
Supplies:
Stamps: Inspired by Nature
Paper: More Mustard, So Saffron, Urban Garden DSP
Ink: Versa Mark and Kiwi Kiss
Accessories: White ep
Card #2 was a different purchase for me. I normally don't go for sets like that but a lot of the women in my club really like them. I think it's now one of my favorite sets! Funny how that works! Anyway, I was thrilled how it turned out. I added the Sanded background to the Gray background paper I made and really like it! The bird is colored with pastels.

Stamps: Friends 24-7, Sanded bg

First in Fitness WINNERS!

Bryson and Lacie were in the county First in Fitness competition last week. What is it you ask? The schools pick one girl and one boy from the 3-5 grades who are the best at either pull-ups, the mile, 100 yd. dash, speed rope, etc. Lacie was picked to represent the forth grade girls in pull-ups and Bryson was chosen as the Triathlete. One 5th grade boy and girl compete as the triathlete. The three events they compete in are pull-ups, shuttle run and the mile. Well...they BOTH won their events! It was so exciting! Lacie did 18 pull-ups! Bryson did 18 pull-ups, and ran the mile in 6:38. I don't know his time for the shuttle run. He didn't win each event but the combination of his scores was the highest! It was an awesome day and I'm so pleased with each of them and all their hard work!

Direct from Kitchen Stadium!

We had a blast a couple of weeks ago when we had an Iron Chef family night! Our secret ingredient was chicken. I know, kind-of boring but I went and got plenty of unique ingredients for everyone to work with. Mark, Bryson and Carston made a sort of jumbalaya served with a salad and asparagus. It was delicious! Brady, Lacie and I made fried chicken with strawberry sauce, hashbrown patties and asparagus. Ours would have been delicious if we wouldn't have put tooooo much salt in it! Darn! Well, it was good with a lot of water. Ha! Oh well!
